Another reason for slick hair in 1950s TV

In the early days of television, TV cameras required huge amounts of light on their subjects in order to achieve acceptiable clarity. Stage sets and people had to shine with brilliant contrast. So not only were slick hairstyles in fashion at that time, they were necessary to show definition.TV cameras were massive in size. They had a rack 2' wide by 8' tall associated with each one to control its levels and other adjustments. In addition to a cameraman, a "shader" operated each of the equipment racks to adjust brigntness and contrast levels for each shot the camera captured as the show was performed.
