Jim Brown, this Website's publisher, went to Poala's home to shoot the Switchblade Comb Fantasy shots above as well as several other scenes which we will be presenting here in periodic installments. You'll see Poala pile on lots of gell and slick his wig into a super wet pompadour and king size DA! Shampoo fans will be fascinated by his wild shampoo sculptures and you will get to see his own real hair heavily oiled into a slicked combover with the sides tightly plastered back!
A session at the photography studio
Poala sometimes uses Vittalis and Groom & Clean. "When it is wet it is easier to use a comb on it and leaves really nice comb tracks when I comb it back."
His favorite style is straight back with no part, lots of height, and then sprayed till it's super stiff!!! To give it height he uses a conditioning foam after shampooing. He puts a lot on so his head is covered and leaves it on for 20 minutes. He then works it in with a brush, brushing it straight back, and then lets it stay in for another half hour or so. Then he rinses and blow dries it. This gives it body and height. When styling, he uses hair spray as he goes along. "Once I get it to the perfect pomp, than I load on the hair spray. I use Gillette pump or can spray."
"I have gone down to the barber shop MANY MANY TIMES to have him shampoo my hair," says Poala. "I love being leaned back into the shampoo bowel and having the barber work me up into a thick lather -- I love to have other people do my hair for me or to have it touched, combed, brushed, or shampooed. I enjoy the feeling."
