If your barber thinks that a flat top is "just another haircut," then it's likely that you're not getting the flattest cut possible! It's a fact, the flat top is a specialist cut and not all haircutters are capable of giving you the flattest possible flat top. The Flat Top Crew are haircutters who specialise only in flat tops. They recognise that the flat top has many variations; from the long Detroit or Flat Top DA to the very short variations of the High and Tight Flat Top. They come to you in Greater Brisbane including Redcliffe, Pine Rivers, Redlands, and Logan. Their website has many excellent photograps of flat tops, both traditional and highly slicked, and all ultra flat!

Barber Don's Barbershop

"Clean Part" wrote, "I have been in Palm Springs the past couple of days on business and saw my favorite barber there, the place is called Barber Don's Barbershop. Don's a very friendly older gentleman with a wonderful collection of barbershop relics and a variety of early 1900's leather studded chairs (mmmmm), figurines, and a few hair tonics I have never seen or heard of before. The main reason I see Don is that he is a barber is who offers Vitalis as a neat finish. He also knows that there are a couple of us that enjoy a good drenching. I had gone in the other day having used Groom and Clean and a healthy amount I might add all perfectly combed and crisply parted for a trim and a little fun. So, well into the haircut and savoring every move, I got the nerve to tell him we just have to finish with good wetting of Vitalis. I thought he would question the fact that I was already greased, but without hesitation he was reaching for the bottle of liquid gold. Oh yea, it was good! The alcohol fumes, the smell, the soaked hair pushed, patted, and smoothed into place made me a new man. The rest of the day I felt on top of the world so neatly shinny and preened. I'm looking forward to doing it all over again today."
Barberia El Catrin Gentlemens Barbershop
400 West 4th St., Suite B
Santa Ana, CA

Mon-Sat 9 am - 5 pm Reviews
This shop was opened in 2010 under a dream to create a haven for those in search of a service that once existed not only a practiced art but was a bond between an artist and his community. El Catrin was founded and operates by two young entrepreneurs that were born and raised in Santa Ana. This is not a typical modern barber shop, but one that still provides an affordable and efficient service. The barbers are fully-accredited and have an innovative eye for modern styles as well as a talent for re-creating styles from the past in an effort to please the retro-minded. They are honored to have in their arsenal Carlos Exit Landeros who once hailed from the barber shops of San Diego (Two Roses in Barrio Logan). He has agreed to join the effort to bring forth his traditionalist methods like the hot towel treatment and straight razor shaves that has earned him his reputation.
Eddy's is a barbershop that specializs in pompadours and the many kinds of haircuts seen here at SlickVille.com. The shop sells hard-to-find hair products for greasers, like cans of Flat Top Wax from American Greaser Supply and other pomades. The shop's operator, Rea, also hosts bands, shows local artists, and sells rare music, including rockabilly tunes.
You know the kind of barbershop where you see mob wise guys with their faces covered with towels and shaving cream? Well Hawleywood's is that kind of shop. Don Hawley has a vision; to resurrect the vanishing time honored era Chicago old style traditional barbershop. Donnie makes his on pomade. Super stuff, looks and feels like grease, but washes out with one shampoo.

STYLING PRODUCTS SPECIALLY FORMULATED FOR THESE KINDS OF STYLES. The house brands at this shop are Hawleywood's own Layrite Deluxe Pomade, Layrite Super Hold, Shampoo, Aftershave #9, Conditioner, and Styling Spray. We sell all of the Hawleywood products at theGreaseShop.com.

There's an old-time barbershop on one side and an awesome supply shop on the other. You can get your 'do done and get your vintage barber chair fixed at the same time! Or look over the extensive collection of barbershop collectables on display.
A full service barbershop with precision haircuts and styling. Some of their specialties include fades, afros, coloring, and texturizing. Walk-ins welcome.
Marc "Pappy" Bennett is a licensed barber and graduate of The Associated Barber College of San Diego. Marc wanted to offer a great place to get an old time cut and a traditional hot-towel, hot-lather shave like no other. This is the college area's only traditional barber shop. They finish each haircut with a hot lather, straight razor neck shave, and a splash of bay bum for that perfect finish extra fresh feeling.
This is a traditional barbershop where you can still get a hot towel shave! And a clean cut! Our goal is to have a place where you can have the old school rides outside, come hang out, have a good time, but most importantly leave clean and happy about your hair. Stop by and let one of their old school barbers give you a good slicking. Ask for Hold Fast Pomade which is a favorite pomade brand at the shop and is often used to firmly hold the many classic hair cuts they are known for.
Visit their web pages listed above for several photos and videos showing not only their great haircuts but scenes from Rockabilly car shows and other cool stuff.
Cody, also known as The Rockabilly Barber moved to Canada from Australia and opened up his first barber shop. He proudly says, "The cuts are always done right the first time, shaves are perfect. No rushing, no overpriced cuts and no salon feeling. From the start I wanted my shop to be a laid back lounge-feel."

The look and feel is old school retro-sheik with big 1950's barber chairs that grab you and say relax the minute you sit down, rich raised wood walls that all have been hand crafted and make you know your not in some plastic wantabe, a plaster wall that has crumbled in what seems to be the perfect places to reveal the rustic red bricks it covers.
This is a full service shop offering shampoos, traditional styles, up-styles, color and highlights, extensions, waxing, and tinting. The operator of this shop is Pietro (P.J.) Salemi who is the Christian grandson of Italian immigrants. He spent most of his childhood in the familys barber and beauty shops where he quickly developed an eye for the perfect hair. Becoming a successful session stylist, Pietro made a name for himself and decided to move his family to Florida. You can read more about Pietro and his shop on the shop's website.
Piereo is a master at his craft and is known for the Hollywood gangster. He is also a member and host of meetings for the Prophets C.C. All rats welcome. Check it out. This is the place you want to see when your in Florida.
The Barbers Shop is a manly for men's place where there are no appointments, no snotty receptionist, and no nonsense. Mike Ciccarelli cuts and slicks at chair number five. He specializes in pompadours and flattops but is good at just about anything. He's into retro culture of the 40's and 50's. He's into rockabilly music, WWII history, and military miniatures. So there will lots to talk about when you are in the chair. The shop is owned and operated by a retired guy named Tom, a WWII marine.

John has been a professional barber for several years. He decided to open up a new school shop with an old school feel in 2008 and has been running it ever since! Liberty Barber Shop opened in 2008 and is owned and operated by John Duvoisin. They offer a full line of services, including fades, blowouts, regular haircuts, designs, beard trims, shaves, hip hop cuts, punk rock cuts, rockabilly cuts, and also offer a versatile selection of mens grooming products. This is a multicultural establishment catering to young and old and everyone in between.
"Kaiserschnitt" is the German word for Cesarean section, but also meaning "haircut like a Kaiser/King." We do not know much about this shop as their website lacks in details, but give it a try and let us know.
There is a page in our Residents of SlickVille section where you can see photos taken of the staff and customers of Kings Barbershop. It worth seeing some of those great high pomps and more. GO THERE
The description of the shop was sent to us in German as follows.
Denn soviel dürfte klar sein RocknRoll will never die.
Retro and avant garde unisex shop. Their website is loaded with more information written in German, so we cannot relate any of it here. Style photos show many men's retro styles and trendy woman's styles. Other pictures on site show a classy salon interior. Looks interesting.
This shop is a traditional barbershop by all means, They specialize in all hairstyles, epecially "Old school" cuts, fades, high and tight, flattops, partings, slickbacks, and pompadours in all shapes. The patrons are mostly rockabillies, psychobillies, and punks. But also young executives and sharp cut young men in suits. They also have have a lot of older guests who enjoy the feeling of stepping back in time, getting a scissors-over-comb haircut or a hot towel shave. The shop gets geusts from all over Holland, some willing to travel for hours to get that perfect cut. Barbering is a dying trade, so the're really proud to honour traditional barbering skills.
The interiour took several years to collect and they're really proud on the fact that 90% of it is over 80 years old which includes a floor made of 100 year old tiles and, as the highlight, a 120 year old french mirror with shaving drawers for clients who have their own shaving gear.
They carry a big range of pomades, hair tonics, shaving cream, and after shaves such as Lucky Tiger, Murray's, Cock Grease, Black and White, Yardley's, Sweet Georgia Brown, Tuxedo Club, Royal Crown, Layrite, Jeris, High Life, Barc, Lucky 13, Wildroot, Grants, Brylcreem, Tres Flores, Ed Pinaud, and several others. You can always drop in for a cut, a hot towel shave, fresh coffee, or ice cold beer. Enjoying music from the 1920's, rockabilly or country.
The name Schorem is a bit hard to translate, but literally means scumbags, but in Dutch it is also the past tense of Shave him, like "I shaved him." Haarsnijder en barbier means "haircutter and barber."
Their website and Facebook page has lots of great photographs of the classic styles they created for their clients. Here are most of them.

If you are in Chicago and in need of a great haircut by a barber who will still finish the haircut with a generous slicking, you've gotta try The Medinah Barberhop. The barber is a young guy in his 30s, a great conversationalist, and attentive. Best of all, at the end of the cut, he'll ask you very matter-of-factly if you "want anything on it." He has many tonics including Lucky Tiger, gels, and other greases. Ask for tonic with oil and you'll be treated to having your fresh haircut finished off as it should be, neat and slicked. The massaging with hair tonic and the aroma wafting around is so relaxing. You will leave with perfectly groomed hair. -Get-The-Wet-Look

It's an old school shop with two chairs, black & white checkered floors, and a variety of vintage barber displays. Real classic. Established in 1918 and is now Oregons oldest barbershop. Barbers Al and Ray are very experienced and wear old school barber jackets and cool haircuts. The atmosphere is certainly warm, friendly, and very hip. Both barbers are talkative and personal. One customer said they took an intrest in his 1962 Ranchero car project. In a word, Great!

The talk is conservitive views and they cater to military and police clients. The atmospher is talkative, warm, and friendly with a TV playing. There is a variety of hair tonics on the counter and other colorful items for sale. They are best at short military cuts although their ability to cut other styles seem limited acording to one customer. They end each cut with hot shaving cream and a straight razor shave on the neck, and a spash of hair tonic. One customer said, "I love the shop because my gradpa use to barber here."

One of our visitors who lives nearby says he just went to this barber named Ivan "the Hairable." He has a one chair neighborhood shop. Ivan has been cutting hair for 50 odd years and he knows what the old cuts are. When asked for a split pompador like Bing Crosby, he knew what was wanted. The result, a great hair cut.

Throughout the late 1800s and early 1900s, the barbering trade flourished in the prestigious Rook's District of London. Before giving way to bars and brothels, and eventually closing it's last barbershop's doors in 1939, the Rook's District was accepted by The Royal Barbers Union of England as the most significant place in the establishment and advancement of the barber profession.
Rook's Barbershop brings the time-honored tradition of classic barbering to the modern man. They uphold the integrity of their craft by providing guests with the same service and consistency that their dads and granddads used to get; a great haircut or a hot shave, a cold beer, and decent conversation. Rook's is a place for guys, yet suitable for the whole family.

"The Clip Guy" is a very busy barber working appointments at a shop in Columbia South Carolina.
I can cut just about any style from a flattop with fenders to a pompadour with zero fade sides or long slicked sides. He can do dapper dans, his favorite, and Princeton, ivy leagues finished with hair tonic or any grease the customer brings with him. The taking of photos is encouraged as well. So bring an understanding male friend to take the photos. And be sure to submit them to SlickVille.com so we can all share the experience!
The shop's owner allows the barbers to use the shop after hours or when the shop is normally closed. The Clip Guy is eager to meet people at the shop during these times. That's because he works with several female barbers who don't quite relate to slick hair as a fetish. People should contact him first by phone or e-mail to discuss plans.
As for the Clip Guy's hair, "I have a bald top of my head, but I like to slick the sides back with a variety of greasy substances ending with a ponytail in the back. Weird, but uniquely me!!!!"

Albert Roasted has been in the barber business in South Dakota for 53 years and at the current location for 45 years. Albert says, "I am an old fashion barber. I do long hair, short hair, crew cuts, bowl, flat top, Mohawks ,Etc." He did not list slick backs, but as an old time barber he must be quite capable. At one time he had a four chair shop. Now it's just himself with one chair. He once had several apprentices and three masters.

This shop is more than just a barbershop. It is also a tattoo shop and has attached to a beauty parlor next door which are both operated by a husband and wife along with a dedicated team. After many years of booking shows and working in clubs and bars in Houston this couple decided to take it to the next level. Big E (Edgar) has been booking live music in Houston for the last 15 years; his love for music, culture, and lifestyle is the main reason he has decided to open Big Kats. This Kat has made the Contiental Club (Houston) his home. What a better place to open a shop then on the block right next to the club in which he has spent much of his life. These people are my family Big E states "without their support for all these years, none of this would be possible." Crissy Salazar (Big Es wife) has been going to his shows for the last 10 years. She loves any and all things vintage claiming Its a lifestyle, not just clothes."
Big E has always had the dream of opening an old school barbershop combined with a tattoo parlor, but never thought it would come together. After discussing with wife Crissy and several close friends they thought adding Vintage inspired salon to E's concept would make the perfect addition to the Main Street block they all love. The couples goal for the shop is to offer an old school feel with updated services. We want this to be THE spot. A place you come to hang out even if you dont need a cut or color.

The place is a typical first come, first served shop. It is mostly a mans domain (there is a salon in the back that is mostly visited by older ladies). Sherman, Vic, and Lee run their chairs with grace and charm engaging their customers in conversations about sports, hunting, and fishing, farming, weather, and family. And their haircuts arent bad either. They cut traditional and modern. The shop hasnt changed much and they have quite a collection of interesting knick knacks. All in all, it is a great shop, great value, and you always come out looking sharp. Joshua

This Dallas barbershop is where Texan men go for their classic cuts and to buy grease and get greased. Since the early days of Rock 'n' Roll, hair styles and hit records have gone hand in hand. More than just side burns and ducktails, style has always been an important part of our Rock 'n' Roll culture. And, if Rock 'n' Roll is your style, then Rob Villarreal has the do for you. Whether you want a Mac Curtis or want it High and Tight, whether you are looking for a Pompadour or a Flattop With Fenders, Rob of Rob's Chop Shop specializes in Rock 'n' Roll style. Rob is known world wide as the premier Rock 'n' Roll barber. Grease and tonics for sale. Products are listed on their website but must be ordered by phone listed above. Also see Products Directory for Teanage Thunder Hair Tonic and greases.
One of our visitors, "Short-N-Slick" wrote, "After my haircut, Rob, without asking, doused on his hair tonic, then added some 20 weight grease and topped it off with 30 weight. My hair was greased down just like I like it. I bought some 30 weight and later ordered some 20 weight and more 30 weight. Ed note: Unfortunately when Short-N-Slick ordered again, he sent two checks and the product was never shipped. We tried several times to rectify this for him, but Rob's never returned any of our calls or e-mails. We would love to recommend Rob's as he has a great shop and products for greasers, but this experience has us doubtful.

Nicks Hair Stylists - CLOSED
5 Hereto Street
Greenwich Village, New York, NY
Nick Staccato once cut hair in the heart of New Yorks West Village. Nick created vintage hairstyles just like they did back then. See Nick at work. Click here! If the legendary actor James Dean were alive, he too might be dissappointed to find Nicks closed. His cuts have been featured in movies, TV programs, theater, newspaper and magazine articles. We do not know if Nick's might be doing business elsewhere, but his Hereto St. shop was recently found abandoned. Perhaps Nick is enjoying a happy retirement.
